1972 年生まれ 米国リオ・グランデ大学芸術学部アート専攻 中退
東京を拠点とする日本の現代画家。
茶の湯や禅の精神などに着想を得ながら、日本の思想である「おのずから（ONOZUKARA）」の理念の元、
人間・自然・宇宙が響き合う作品を制作している。
2009 年度 第34回國美芸術展 東京都知事賞（石原慎太郎賞）を受賞
2009 年度 第34回國美芸術展 名誉総裁特別賞（森喜朗）を受賞
2017年のArt Stage Singaporeをはじめ、国内外で作品を発表している。2014年から2016年には、スイスのプライベートバンクであるロンバー・オディエの日本法人、ロンバー・オディエ信託株式会社において作品が常設展示された。また、日本各地の宗教施設や公共施設にも作品が恒久設置されている。
TAKAO A GALLERY（東京・名古屋）に所属。
2008年〜現在 年3回の新作個展を実施。
余計なものを削ぎ落とすことで、作品を見る者の想像力が自由に動き回れる空間をつくり出している作風。彼の作品は、個としての自己を超えた視座、すなわち純粋に人間的でも純粋に自然的でもなく、その両者をつなぐより大きなリズムから立ち現れる「第三の視座」との静かな出会いへと誘う。
このアプローチを通じて、彼の絵画は宇宙を単に表象することではなく、その中に見る人が「今、在る」という感覚を呼び起こす点に特徴があると言われる。

AKAO ABE is a Japanese contemporary painter based in Tokyo. Inspired by the spirit of the tea ceremony and Zen, his work explores the relationship between humanity, nature, and the cosmos through the Japanese concept of ONOZUKARA.
ABE received the Tokyo Governor's Award in 2009 and has exhibited internationally, including at Art Stage Singapore (2017). From 2014 to 2016, his work was featured in a permanent exhibition at Lombard Odier Trust Japan Co., Ltd., the Japanese branch of the Swiss private bank Lombard Odier. His paintings have also been permanently installed in significant religious and public institutions throughout Japan.
He is represented by TAKAO A GALLERY (Tokyo / Nagoya).
Artistic Characteristics
By reducing what is unnecessary, ABE seeks to create a space in which the viewer's imagination can move freely. His works invite a quiet encounter with a perspective beyond the individual self — a third perspective that is neither purely human nor purely natural, but arises from the larger rhythm that connects both. Through this approach, his paintings aim not simply to represent the cosmos, but to evoke a sense of being within it.

私はこれまで、日本の伝統芸能、とりわけ能楽の身体表現を研究してきました。そこでは、個人の感情を前面に表すのではなく、「型」を通すことで、世界の摂理や人知を超えた存在を表現するという独自の思想が息づいています。
TAKAO ABEの作品に触れたとき、私はその表現に大変驚きました。自己表現の要素を削ぐことで大宇宙を立ち現れさせるその手法は、能楽の「型」と深く通じるものだったからです。実際にTAKAO ABEは、「降りてきたイメージを忠実に描く」と語り、自己を前面に出すのではなく、それを削ぎ落とすことを大切にして制作していると言います。
あるがままの宇宙の摂理を静かに表現するその作品からは、日常の中では得がたい視座がもたらされます。それは、私自身が伝統芸能の研究を通して追い求めてきたものとも重なります。
私たちは日常の中で、知らず知らずのうちに多くのこだわりにとらわれています。しかし、現実から少し離れた視座を得たとき、世界の見え方がふと変わる瞬間がもたらされることがあるのではないでしょうか。
実際にTAKAO ABEの作品に触れたことで、私自身の世界観も大きく変容しました。
その魅力に深く心を動かされた私は、より多くの方にこの作品を届けたいという思いからTAKAO ABE先生にお許しを頂き「TAKAO ABE × YUI M. Cultural Project」を立ち上げました。
本サイトでは、作品紹介をはじめ、作品に関連したグッズの展開、さらには日本文化講座のご案内などを発信してまいります。

My research has focused on Japanese traditional performing arts, particularly the embodied expression of Noh.
In this tradition, rather than foregrounding personal emotion, there exists a distinctive aesthetic in which “form (kata)” gives shape to universal principles and presences beyond human understanding.
When I encountered the works of TAKAO ABE, I was deeply struck by their approach.By minimizing elements of personal expression, his works bring forth a vast, cosmic perspective, an approach that resonates strongly with the concept of form in Noh. In fact, ABE has stated that he faithfully renders images that “descend” to him, consciously setting aside personal expression in the process of creation.
His works quietly express the natural order of the universe, offering a perspective that is rarely accessible in everyday life. This perspective closely aligns with what I have long sought through my study of traditional performing arts.
In our daily lives, we often become bound by various attachments and assumptions. Yet when we gain a viewpoint that steps outside of our immediate reality, our perception of the world can shift in profound ways.
Through encountering TAKAO ABE’s work, my own worldview has transformed.
Moved deeply by this experience, I founded the TAKAO ABE × YUI M. Cultural Project in order to share these works with a wider audience.
